St Mary’s Church. Ullswater Walk. Sept 2017

Annual Church Walk.
This year our walk was quite different from the usual wander around the hills. On the morning of Saturday, 16th September we all met up at Glenridding. Having bought our tickets we boarded one of the Ullswater ferries and sailed north to Howtown. The scenery could not have been better with high cloud and some sunshine. It was very encouraging to see such a large group come together to share the occasion with ages ranging from seven to seventy-seven. Having walked a mile we found a beautiful spot overlooking the lake and sat down to have a well- earned lunch which was finished off with a very vocal “Happy Birthday” to celebrate Alison’s special day.
For some of the older generation this was a walk that brought back memories of childhood. For the youngest in our group, we were helping to create future memories; and we were certainly envious of their boundless energy. A Café far from a road was a lovely surprise where the tea, coffee and cake was welcomed and some could have sat in the warm all day! Views of the high fells surrounding Helvellyn were superb. We walked a distance of seven miles, but those with their very modern “fit bits” suggested that we had walked much further. Many thanks to all those who came and made a contribution. We raised a substantial amount that will go towards the up keep of St Mary’s Church in Cumwhitton.
